FSSG, Freetown – Sierra Leone

Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG) is a long established link. Two ASPIRE staff have visited the school. The school is in Freetown and serves 3000 girls in two shifts.

Our link teacher here is Victoria, who was due to visit Hull and ASPIRE  in October 2014. Unfortunately, the Ebola epidemic made this impossible. Aspire students and staff donated and fund-raised to send essential cleaning products and medical supplies to our link teachers and students. Aspire led a collaboration with local organisations, schools and businesses to maximise the support. As things became more controlled and schools reopened, we sent books and other materials to help resource the school. Eve, a previous FSSG teacher, is currently studying in London. We hope she will be able to visit us soon, to talk directly with our students about life in Sierra Leone. We continue to send termly shipments.
